Great hit record, almost certainly the result of the weird falsetto (guitarist Rob Folschow) and barely enough skill happily colliding for a small miracle. The video is creepy, with the dancing girl, the (apparently) 12 year old drummer, and how the band and whoever produced the record obviously not understanding anything about what they had going here.

I've always liked this song, even though looking at it objectively it's a pretty cheesy '70s tune. I figured that Marimba Guy nagged and nagged the rest of his bandmates for a solo, and they finally said "OK. We'll give you 30 seconds. Knock yourself out." And he does come up with a helluva solo, gotta give him that.

I don't even have to click to know what song that is 😏 ... John's favorite cheese turned out to be the future symbol of mass-produced coffee drinks.

Curmudgeon would be a great name for a newly discovered species of crab.

I'm adding that one to the ol' library.

Here's one you can never forget, which by the way was from a cheap porno film:

This would be my...uh, prototype? archetype? let's go with paragon...of a one hit wonder.

This is a twofer; the Shocking Blue's version of "Venus", which was their only hit; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPEhQugz-Ew

The song was then covered by Bananarama, and became their only hit:

Has anyone figured out how to post a picture yet? I'll figure it out when I get some free time, but it'll be a day or two.

Did these guys ever have another hit? Did they even exist in the first place?

I like one hit wonders because they tend to be forgotten after everyone got sick of them...years later, they're tasty and not so guilty pleasures in your music library.

They actually had a television show for a short time; I think their show was the first national exposure for David Letterman.

I think they still tour, but they came out at a time when producers preferred to keep churning out new artists, to prevent -- speculating here -- to prevent any single entity from getting too famous to discard.

I looked it up - it doesn't look like they tour anymore. They did a reunion in 1998, featuring their kids performing with them, but that's mostly it.

The original two members co-wrote Take me Home, Country Roads" with John Denver.

I guess that illustrates the problem with all personal, unresearched claims. You can only know what you know, not what other people can look up for you. 🤨

I suppose it's just my training. I'm surprised you don't do the look-up thing. I head for Wikipedia just about every time I watch a movie, a television show or an old music video. YouTube should add a Wikipedia link to its videos.

Hey, the quoting feature here is better than it is at BJOL Reader Posts...you get both quotes (as in this case).

I thought I knew something, or else I would have looked it up. The trouble with ignorance is that you are blissfully unaware of it. I don't doubt that you are more consistent than most people when it comes to checking sources and details. Me, I only look when I'm really interested.

Was anyone aware that Arthur Brown is still active? He is. He's had a long and interesting career, but qualifies as a one hit wonder since he's never come close to the commercial success of "Fire." He's also set himself on fire - accidentally - at least a couple of times.

Here's a link to his wikipedia page:

I need to figure out how to embed photos and videos .. they are easy in the regular part of the site, but here you have to use code to post them. I'll get it, but it might be a few days (two articles to get out and no days off this week).

Arthur Brown ... this is a chestnut for me, Gary. I had no idea what his influence was ... should he be in the RnR Hall of Fame as a pioneer? How much of the Alice Cooper/David Bowie genre can he lay claim to inventing?

Great stuff. We should definitely post Wiki pages all over the place. That's really what made your post special.
