The Ferventest Thing You’ll Read Today

John Hunter

February 20, 2017

Today, in my travels around the web, I came across this gem from MSN:

“Donald Trump’s comments during a rally in Florida on Saturday night that seemed to suggest a non-existent terrorist attack had taken place in Sweden have pitted the Scandinavian nation against some fervent supporters of the US president.”

The thrust of the article was that, apparently, some of President Trump’s supporters believe that there actually was a terrorist attack somewhere in Sweden, but the media is somehow covering it up.

I hereby promulgate Hunter’s Law of Political Commentary, which is that the terms “fervent” and “stupid” can be used interchangeably. As in, “Those Trump supporters are so fervent that you could put the brains of three of them in a bumblebee, and it would still fly backward.” Or any number of comments about the fervent protesters who were throwing rocks and breaking windows in Philadelphia. As a corollary, I propose that the more fervent one is about one’s politics, the less one’s worldview will correspond with reality.

I fervently believe this is true.
